Wise and Foolish

The wise man built his house upon the rock…The foolish man built his house upon the sand. This parable may seem simplistic, but it teaches us some really important truths that we need to pay attention to. Are you wise or are you foolish? Will you listen to Jesus’ teachings and follow what He says or will you continue to follow your own path? Let us consider Jesus’ words, and like the crowd gathered around Him, let us be amazed at His teaching because He taught with authority. Read more

The Two Paths

Jesus gives us some difficult teaching in this passage. He explains to us that there are only two paths in life - the path to destruction and the path to life. What path are you on? It is the beginning of Lent, and we are starting our Lenten series in which we look at some of the teachings of Jesus. This week we are considering what Jesus tells us about worry. Jesus provides us with vital tools and guidance in dealing with our fears and worries that will enable us to navigate life with more confidence as we trust the One who made us to guide us in the right paths. From Terror to Reassurance

After the dramatic miracles on Mount Carmel, Elijah finds himself experiencing a moment of doubt and uncertainty, which spirals until he is in a pit of despair, wanting his life to end. But God tends to him and shows Elijah that God works through both the big and bold and also the ordinary, stillness and silence. God sits with Elijah in his pain and helps restore him to a place of peace. Read more

From Divided Loyalties to Committed Faith

Elijah meets with Ahab and his prophets for an epic showdown, and battle of the gods. And the Israelites gather around to watch this face-off. Elijah questions the Israelites: “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” God issues this question to us too. How long will you waver between two opinions? Where does your loyalty lie? How will you answer? Will you stay silent like the Israelites did? Or will you take a step of faith and make a bold recommitment to God? Read more
